Balustrade Glass Panel Options
Frameless glass balustrade panels are used to create clear, open barriers for decks,
balconies, stairs, voids and other areas where an uninterrupted view is preferred.
The right panel type depends on the fixing method, installation height, project design
and compliance requirements.
12mm Toughened Glass Panels
12mm clear toughened and heat-soaked glass panels are commonly used in frameless
balustrade systems where the design allows for 12mm glass. These panels are supplied
with no holes, 2mm radius corners and polished edge finishing for a clean frameless result.
15mm Toughened Glass Panels
15mm clear toughened and heat-soaked glass panels provide a heavier-duty option for
frameless balustrade projects. These panels are supplied without holes and are suited
to compatible fixing systems such as suitable spigots, channels or rail-supported designs,
depending on the project requirements.
15mm Standoff Glass Panels
15mm standoff glass panels are designed for side-fixed balustrade applications where
the glass is mounted using compatible standoff fixings. These panels include pre-drilled
Ø22mm standoff holes and are supplied in a 1280mm high format for suitable balustrade layouts.
17.52mm Laminated Toughened Glass Panels
17.52mm laminated clear toughened glass panels with SGP interlayer are suited to applications
where laminated glass is required or preferred. Laminated glass is often selected for balustrade
barrier designs where post-breakage performance and project compliance requirements are a key
consideration.
Important Compliance Note
Glass used in balustrade barriers must be selected and installed in accordance with the NCC,
AS 1288:2021 and relevant Australian Standards. Product compliance and site compliance are
not the same thing — the complete balustrade system, including glass type, fixing method,
substrate, handrail or top rail requirements, loading requirements and installation location,
must be checked for the specific site.
For barriers protecting a fall of 5 metres or more, laminated glass is generally required
under AS 1288:2021 guidance. For lower-height applications, monolithic toughened glass may be
suitable only where the relevant provisions are satisfied.
If unsure, please confirm the correct glass type and fixing system with your engineer,
certifier or installer before purchase.
